FAQ

Who can benefit from laser vision correction?

Those who need glasses or contact lenses to see distant objects clearly and would like to get rid of these aids should consider laser vision correction, if there are no medical contraindications.

For those who need glasses for clear distance vision, but also need to use reading glasses, laser vision correction may improve distance vision clarity in some cases.

Vision correction interventions are never performed under age of 18, and rarely above age 60. For those who only need glasses for reading, but have a clear distance vision, laser vision correction will unfortunately not help.

Pregnancy, breast-feeding, some internal medicine and ophthalmology disorders are contraindications: screening for these is a part of the detailed preoperative eye exam.

Is laser eye surgery safe?

Traditional LASIK surgeries may very rarely have complications, which may worsen vision, which is why the perfectly safe IntraLASIK have been introduced.

The detailed eye exam, both before and during the intervention, includes several control methods, which essentially eliminate human error. Computer-guided lasers are physically incapable of any error.

Is the laser corrected vision a permanent improvement?

The laser makes a very subtle change in the surface, or with IntraLASIK, under the surface layer of the cornea. The „repair cells” of the cornea sense this change and try to recreate the original state. This is primarily true for surface (PRK) surgeries, because surface repair cells are more active.

After IntraLASIK interventions, this activity is low. That is why PRK surgeries require a 12-month check-up period, in which the activity of repair cells is decreased by eye drops, whereas IntraLASIK requires a much shorter check-up period.

In both cases though, after the recovery period, repair cells accept the change and begin to guard this new cornea shape against external effects, which is now responsible for the clear vision. After this period, vision clarity does not change and the achieved outcome lasts a lifetime.

We would like to point out that no laser vision correction procedure will prevent the aging of the eye, so even laser treated patients will need to use reading glasses as they age. Distance vision however will remain clear after the recovery period.

What results can be expected after the laser surgery?

There are hardly any medical interventions where the outcome could be predicted so precisely than that of laser vision correction procedures. Based on our more than 10-year experience, tens of thousands of successful treatments and worldwide statistical figures, it can be safely said that laser surgery is successful, even severe refractive errors can be cured or significantly improved.

All patients have a clearer vision after the laser surgeries than before.

How to prepare for the eligibility eye exam?

Do not use your soft contact lenses for 6 days and your hard contact lenses for 4-6 weeks prior to the exam. Failing to do so may corrupt test results!

You may have breakfast before the examination, please do not come to the exam fasting.

The examination will take about 1,5 hours. Your pupils will be dilated with eye drops, making your eyes sensitive to light and you will not see close objects clearly. You may find it useful to bring along a pair of sunglasses for the exam, because they will significantly decrease light sensitivity.

Ladies are kindly asked not to wear makeup.

Please bring along your earlier ophthalmology documentation.

The result of the examination is valid for 6 months. After 6 months, the exam must be repeated before the correction surgery.

All through the examination, the most state-of-the-art equipment is used so that our Ophthalmologists will tell you the results you may expect from the laser vision correction. We do not perform the surgery, if there are any medical contraindications.

How to prepare for the laser eye treatment?

You may have breakfast before the examination, please do not come to the exam fasting.

Ladies are kindly asked not to wear makeup.

For safety reasons, the most important part of the eligibility examination is repeated and then anaesthetic eye drops are administered on the cornea.

About two hours will pass from your arrival until you leave the Clinic, but the treatment itself takes no longer tan 8-10 minutes.

You will experience that your vision has improved right after the laser correction, you will not need your glasses any more, but it takes a few more days for vision clarity to stabilize.

After PRK surgeries, protective contact lenses are places on the eyes, which will be removed at check-ups; you will not have to do anything about them.

After IntraLASIK, you will be given a pair of special transparent protective glasses for a day, which will not allow you to touch the treatment area intentionally or accidentally.

One or two days of rest are suggested after IntraLASIK and 4-6 days of rest are recommended after PRK.

The eyes must be protected from UV radiation with sunglasses with 100% UV protection for 1-2 months after IntraLASIK and for 6 months after PRK.

Some check-ups will be required and you will have to use eye drops for the outcome of the laser correction to last.

IntraLASIK requires less check-ups and less frequent use of eye drops for a shorter period than PRK.

How long will I need to stay at Hungary?

If you have IntraLASIK laser vision correction you will need to stay only 3 days.

Cataract removal is a bit more complicated procedure that requires more check-ups so you can expect to stay for a week.

What if I’m unsuitable for laser eye surgery?

If the detailed eligibility exam at Budapest indicates that you are not suitable to have the vision correction for any medical reason, we will refund all your deposit.

Can I have laser vision correction if I have Diabetes?

Diabetes can be a contradiction but if your Diabetes is controlled it may still be possible to carry out the laser vision correction.

Can laser eye surgery help if I got Cataracts?

Unfortunately no, but we can still help you with other treatment options.

Can laser eye surgery help if I have severed short or long sightedness?

Laser vision correction is recommended up to minus 12 or plus 6 dioptres. For those who have a more severe refractive error, laser is unfortunately not an optimal solution. Today, however, there is an alternative to glasses or contact lenses in these cases too. We use a successful surgical technique identical to the one used for cataracts and performed worldwide, which can sometimes improve vision to perfect clarity. The minimally invasive ultrasound surgery is performed, which is safe and has an extremely fast recovery rate. Capable of curing even extreme refractive errors, this intervention –which is identical to the one used for cataracts- is recommended for severe long sightedness of +6 to +12 dioptres, and severe short sightedness of -12 to -30 dioptres.
